Typical schedule and documents required, for vehicle changeover
After contracting us we will arrange a face to face meeting with you at a place and time most convenient to you. To speed matters up please find under a list of the documents that we will require:
Original vehicle registration papers
- EEC Certificate of Conformity (for vehicles produced after 1997 this can be obtained from the manufacturer)
- Copy of the `Certificado de Empadronamiento` (registration confirmation from your local Spanish authority), or `Escritura de compra` (Property contract), or a current rental agreement, as confirmation of your address are required.
- A Copy of your NIE registration, or a Residencia (TIE).
- A Copy of your passport – front and back side – including picture, signature, date/place of issue etc. The copy must be easily readable.
- If you have recently purchased the vehicle and are not named in the original registration document, then you must provide a copy of the purchase contract (ideally translated into Spanish), and a copy of the sellers Passport or a sales invoice from the car dealer.

Historical Number plates
In Spain it’s possible for your vehicle to be registered with `Historical Number plates`.
The following conditions have to be met:
- Vehicle must be at least 30 years old
- The Vehicle is in its original condition, and has not been altered in any way
The advantages of having ‘Historical registration’ include:
- Most towns in Mallorca will not charge road tax
- The vehicle only has to be checked (MOT/ITV) every 2-4 years – dependent on age

NIE Number - the Identification Number for foreigners (only for EU-citizens)
Everybody that lives in Spain, who opens a Company, or wants to rent or buy property, has to obtain a NIE Number. This number is essential for foreigners that want to live in Spain, and is necessary for all transactions. By registering for the number there are no tax obligations or other liabilities as a result
(this changes as soon as one is employed).
To apply for the NIE in Spain (only for EU-citizens), you either have to go personally, or represented by someone, to the foreign office.
We offer you our services of applying the number either together with you or for you, and will help you with a quick and uncomplicated process
Residencia (only for EU-citizens)
Under the latest regulations it is not strictly necessary to have a Residencia, but there is still a requirement to register with the Authorities.
Since 1st April 2007 it has no longer been possible for EU-foreigners to obtain a `Tarjeta de Residencia`. Instead of this you now have to obtain a paid certificate confirming that you have been added to the Register for EU-foreigners.

Modelo 210 Non-Resident Tax Declaration
You are a non-resident real estate owner, which you dont rent out, than you are obligates to pay the so called self-interest tax.
This tax-delcaration (Modelo 210) always has to be done before the end of the following year, and must be declarated by each owner of the real estate.

LOCAL TAXES – Electronic Postbox
All property owners in Mallorca must pay two local taxes to the Local Tax Agency (ATIB) on an annual basis. These are the Garbage Collection Tax and the Property Tax (named “IBI”)
The ATIB is gradually stopping sending payment letters related to these taxes by post. This means that, instead, you must be registered on their website to guarantee you receive the instructions to pay the taxes.
We can take care of registering you in the ATIB and, if desired, set up the direct debit of these local taxes for you.
When we register you, an email and physical address will be requested in order for them to send you any relevant notifications (for example, if payment is missed).
If you would like us to put our contact details, instead of yours, to make sure nothing is missed, we would strongly recommend you consider our Receipt of Tax Notification Service (detailed in the next section).
RECEIPT OF TAX NOTIFICATIONS SERVICE (certificado digital)
We have started to offer clients a new service consisting of the receipt on their behalf of all the tax notifications that the Spanish tax authorities may send them to their property located in Spain, via a) declaring our office as their tax notification address; and b) most importantly, activating and monitoring the so-called “Electronic Postbox”, where the taxpayer can ask the tax authorities to send any tax notifications electronically.

The goal of this service is to ensure that no Spanish tax notifications are missed during the clients’ absence from the island or as a result of the lack of review of the “Electronic Postbox”, with the potential risk of losing the right to appeal any tax notification, tax inspection request on their Spanish taxes, or receiving penalties on the non-disputed amounts.
